As an artist I explore our perception of reality through my preferred medium of photography, primarily still life, nature and scenic photography. I aim to gently challenge the viewer’s initial perception of the subject of the photograph and create a moment of visual uncertainty. I do so, through photographing a subject in a context other than its natural context, or through selecting uncommon angles or lighting in which to photograph the subject.

The viewer is encouraged to question what they are looking at, and then challenged to view the subject differently.  In doing this, the viewer is open to exploring beyond their initial perception, and open to modifying their understanding and considering alternative views.

Like any other artist, I have a distinct understanding of how I see the world.  Rather than simply presenting the viewer with photographs that directly correspond to that view, however, I try first to get viewers to question and reevaluate what they see. My hope is that in doing so the viewers will reconsider its meaning as well.
